Team,
Last night's game was a good one. I don't want anyone to be discouraged by the loss. It was a good team to play for our first game because they drew attention to our weaknesses.
Some things to work on:
Organization - both on the field and off. Now that we know how the games progress, we can adjust accordingly.
Aggression - they were rough on us and we aren't used to that. I don't want us playing dirty, but standing up for ourselves against an opponent will benefit us.
Experience - they were a team of girls that have been playing together for years. We are a BRAND NEW TEAM with only a couple months of practice. Experience will come.
Substitutions - they subbed a lot and we didn't. I will always try to get as many players as much playing time as possible as the situation warrants.
I know that some of you were upset that you didn't get the playing time you wanted last night. I have told the team before that some players made the squad, not because of great skill, but because of uplifting, positive attitudes and a willingness to learn. For some of you, I didn't see that positive attitude last night. I am not implying that I have a team of half players/half cheerleaders but when you are on the bench, you need to have your eyes on the field, supporting and cheering for the girls that are playing. I heard a lot of unnecessary negativity on the bench last night. As a coach, it is distracting and it reflects poorly on you as a player and, in turn, on the team.
I am proud of each and every one of you. You braved hunger and freezing cold temperatures for the game last night. I hope you are proud of yourselves and are looking forward to much more practice time and game time.
Game 1 Outstanding Players:
TK - for taking a massive hit early and playing hard the whole rest of the game!
Michaela - lots of clutch saves that denied them goals (wicked slide tackle girl)!
See you tomorrow :)
